AR/FR means “arc rated, flame-resistant”, and is a shorthand acronym referring to a class of dual-hazard safety fabrics used to make arc rated and flame-resistant clothing. Arc rated fabrics are designed to resist arc flashes, while flame-resistant fabrics are designed to resist flash fires. Dual hazard “AR/FR” protective clothing is designed to resist both arc flashes and flash fires. All arc rated fabric is flame-resistant, however, not all flame-resistant fabrics are arc rated. The term “hi-vis” is shorthand for high-visibility.
ATPV stands for “Arc Thermal Protective Value”, and is a value that represents the maximum performance capability of a fabric when exposed to arc-flash. This value is tested according to the test method ASTM 1959 and measured in calories per square centimeter. ATPV and/or EBT fabric is used in protective apparel and protective equipment.
What is the difference between inherently flame-resistant fabrics and chemically dependent flame-resistant fabrics?
Inherently flame-resistant fabrics are made with fibers that have flame resistance properties built into their structure. This means that the protection is intrinsic and can never be washed or worn out compared to fabric with chemical treatment. The fabric is used in flame resistant clothing and FR garments.
What does solution-dyed mean?
Solution dying is a textile manufacturing process that adds color pigments into the polymers without the use of water, and then extrudes it into fiber with color. The dyed fabric keeps its colorfastness to light while maintaining the quality of a performance fabric, wash after wash.

Who is required to wear FR Hi-Vis?
FR Hi-Vis clothing should be worn in situations where workers need to be seen and protected from possible fire as defined/required by ANSI 107-2020. The flame-resistant qualities of the material help protect workers from flash fires while the high-visibility, reflective qualities help the worker to clearly be seen. FR Hi-Vis safety apparel include jackets, vests, and more.
What is worn underneath GlenGuard FR Hi-Vis vests?
Depending on what the hazard risk analysis performed by your company outlines, a FR shirt, FR jacket, or FR coveralls that meet the applicable safety requirements should be worn under a GlenGuard FR Hi-Vis vest. There are many FR safety apparel options, including long sleeve base layers and long-sleeved shirts.
Does laundering affect the performance of GlenGuard FR?
No, as long as it’s laundered to the proper care and maintenance standards.
What are the effects of bleaches and solvents on GlenGuard FR?
GlenGuard FR is resistant to most solvents and chlorine bleach, but they should never be used with any FR fabric.
What are the effects of aging, sunlight and abrasion on GlenGuard FR?
GlenGuard FR has excellent resistance to aging, sunlight and abrasion.
How should GlenGuard FR be cleaned?
FR and Hi-Vis garments will last longer if properly taken care of and cleaned. We recommend washing garments separately from everyday clothing without the use of fabric softener. GlenGuard FR can also be dry-cleaned.

It depends, all work environments are dynamic and have separate specific standards. GlenGuard recommends that employers conduct a thorough Hazard Risk Analysis and determine their FR clothing needs. Additionally, we recommend that you continuously monitor your employees workplace conditions in order to determine their appropriate FR clothing needs as they are ever-changing.
